Introducing Sunny Rain
Sunny Rain is coming in like a hurricane as she becomes the NBT. Her current single, Country Gramma, captures who she is as an artist and what’s on the table. Even though the lyrics were a little off and not really something I would vividly remember, the melody and beat are very hypnotizing. “We can go up, up, up or we can go down, down, down” is a highlight from the song I believe most will enjoy due to the fact it’s quite catchy and goes with the melody of the track.
We’re definitely intrigued to seeing something new off this idea. Sunshine, her newest project, also gives fans an in-depth look at everything she has to offer with seven entire EPs. When it comes to her music, this STL native has all the fire and lyrical talent…which she later talks with our special DSHH interviewer in the interview below.
What’s the significance of your name?
Having the name Sunny Rain always reminds me to stay present and allow myself to feel no matter what the situations are. The Rain needs the Sun and the Sun needs the Ran.
What city do you hail from?
I come straight from the Midwest. STL to be exact.
How are you going to approach the game as an artist?
I approach the game as my authentic self and continuously giving them something new to luv every time they see.
Who are some of the artists and producers you’ve worked with for your new music?
I’ve worked with RAYRAY&AR, Sir I & Davinci the beat. All from STL. I like to show how diverse my city is.
Whom would you say are your greatest influences in music today?
Mia X was the one that made me pick up a pen. I loved No Limit. When I was young women dominated so Eve, Rah Digga, Missy Elliot, Mary J, Erykah Badu. Last but not least is the person that changed my view of music, Kanye West.
What are you bringing new to the game for the culture?
My style visually and sonically. I believe that I play on the sense by not looking like what kind of music I make.
Explain your new single and what’s your current project?
Country Gramma is the song I’m pushing as my introduction to the game. I think it’s the perfect song to get people hip to who I am, where Im from and what they can expect. My current project is Sunshine which is a 7 song EP full of flavors.
So with the climate of today’s artists using ghostwriters, would you use any, and have you done any, for any artists out there now?
I currently write all of my music, but I’m not opposed to writers. I think music is a universal language expressed in different ways. Hearing another way to put together these feelings or vibes is always cool and a learning experience for both.
