Trippie Redd finally released his album, Pegasus, and is already comparing himself to Lil Wayne’s A-list status and his “Carter V” album. Aside from the album’s leak last summer, Trippie Redd felt justice had to be done so he released his latest album, Pegasus.
So, the real question is: Is Trippie Redd valid to compare himself to Lil Wayne after Pegasus was leaked before officially debuting?
Redd took to Instagram and posted a video stating his skills were as good as Lil Wayne’s, maybe even better. “I’m the real-life Lil Wayne now, you know what I’m saying?” Trippie announced. “I dropped a leaked album. My shit like Carter V, boy. Fuck you talking about?”
The 21-year-old’s popularity exploded when he dropped the single “Scars Love” and his mixtape “A Love Letter to You.”
Ever since then Trippie’s fanbase greatly expanded as well as his Hollywood status. Even at this rate, it still doesn’t top the Lil Wayne era. Weezy reached into his ultimate aspect towards the beginning of the “blog era.” During this era, the internet and rap were meeting in destructive ways, which led to massive music leaks. These tactics hurt Lil Wayne’s career, due to the fact he was the biggest rapper in the game.
Big hits like “Mrs. Officer”, “6 Foot 7 Foot”, and “A Milli” brought attention towards Lil Wayne, which resulted in being leaked several times leading up to the release of Tha Carter III. The leaks actually promoted the albums, Tha Carter III and Tha Carter V.
Pegasus was leaked this summer, but Trippie Redd decided to continue the project without changing the songs that would totally alter it from the leaked album. The leak was actually a mega boost for Pegasus since the album sold over 60,000 units and debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. Maybe Trippie Redd’s comparisons might’ve been a bit of an exaggeration, but we will give Trippie credit for releasing the album despite the minor issues.
