According to multiple media sources, Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office has charged Tory Lanez with shooting Megan Thee Stallion during an argument earlier this summer.
Tory Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, was accused of shooting Meg in the foot after she left an SUV during an alleged fight between the two on July 12. He is now facing two felony charges, one count of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle. Per the statement, Lanez is also facing a gun allegation and that he “personally inflicted great bodily injury.”
The D.A.’s news release does not name Megan; however, it states the charges pertain to the 28-year old rapper assaulting a “”female friend”. Lanez is due to be arraigned Tuesday Oct 13 in Los Angeles. Prosecutors are requesting his bail be set at $1.1m at his arraignment. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 23 years in prison.
On Sunday July 12, Tory Lanez was arrested by the LAPD when they responded to calls of shots being fired in a Hollywood Hills neighborhood. He was then charged with concealing a firearm in a vehicle but bonded put the next day. Law enforcement continued to investigate but had no solid leads on what happened that night.
Megan The Stallion initially refused to name Lanez as the person who shot her. She stated, “I suffered gunshot wounds as a result of a crime that was committed against me and done with the intention to physically harm me”. On August 20, she finally admitted in an Instagram video “Yes… Tory shot me”. She urged him to stop lying about the incident and confess to the shooting.
Lanez has not spoken publicly about the incident. On September 24, he suggested on social media that he would break his silence that evening. That announcement turned out to be a teaser for the release of his fifth studio album Daystar on September 25. On the new album, he maintains his innocence regarding the shooting incident and also shares details about him and Megan’s relationship. While Tory was a topic of social media conversation when the project dropped, he received quite a bit of criticism from people who said he was trying to profit off the incident by releasing music to address what happened.
