“The Boy is Mine” Verzuz Battle: Brandy vs Monica

“Get Ready for the Queens!”

It’s been months since the start of Instagram’s Verzuz and the only female battle has been between Jill Scott and Erykah Badu. The fans have asked and now their wish has been granted. The next female duo to battle on the virtual stage are the queens of R&B, Brandy and Monica.

According to an Instagram post from @verzuztv, Brandy and Monica will face off on Monday, August 31st at 8PM EST.

“#History,” Brandy wrote on her account. “Thank you @monicadenise and @verzuztv for making this happen. Let’s celebrate!!!!”

“This will be historical …. it’s an honor @brandy”, Monica agreed with her own post. In another post, Monica asked the fans of the duo “What songs would you all like to see us bring to @verzuztv !! Celebrating these catalogs is for the culture with love! From Young Women to Adult Women we’ve been with y’all! Name the songs you love.”

Brandy and Monica’s Relationship

In 1998, Brandy and Monica team up on one of the biggest hits in history, “The Boy Is Mine”, which topped singles charts for more than three months. Since the release of the song, their relationship has been up and down. Monica told People magazine in a 2015 interview that the so-called feud between the two was “brilliant marketing and not beef”.

According to Dallas Austin, there was beef between the two and it surrounded Monica’s belief that Brandy was too prim and proper. “Monica was very ghetto when it came down to it. … If you didn’t have gold teeth she didn’t like you,” said Austin during an interview with VladTV. “She was really hood in Atlanta.” Austin mentioned a altercation between the two backstage at what he believes was the American Music Awards.

Monica actually admitted to the punch in 2012 when she and Brandy were promoting their second duet “It All Belongs to Me.” As of today, we can’t confirm there is still “beef” between the two females, but DirtySouthHipHop can’t want to witness the battle of the Queens on August 31.
