Snoop Dogg Launches New Boxing League

Snoop Dogg Launches New Boxing League

Octagon? More like the Dogg House.

Snoop Dogg and entertainment platform Triller are teaming up to start a boxing league aptly named “The Fight Club.” The partnership follows the well received, Triller produced match between Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr., at which Snoop Dogg was the commentator. The new league will host five to eight events a year, with Snoop as host and announcer.

The events will be formatted similarly to the Tyson-Jones fight, with elite cards of entertainment from both the fighting and music worlds.

According to a press release announcing “The Fight Club,” Triller and Snoop will be “connecting celebrities from various backgrounds, from breakout social media stars and professional athletes renowned for their athletic abilities to celebrated musicians and well-known actors and other stars willing to tackle a new venture and enter the world of boxing, as well as pro boxers making their way up.”

Expect major matches.

Triller co-owner Ryan Kavanaugh says to expect some of the biggest matches in fighting history. “I can tell you that the main fight — I can’t say it yet — but it’s gonna be something that everybody wants to see,” he said. “If you thought [Tyson vs. Jones Jr.] is big, I think that this would be even larger from a worldwide-appetite perspective and something that people want to see.”

The new league is separate from Tyson’s “Legends Only League,” which generated over $80 million in PPV revenue following last week’s fight, however “The Fight Club” will have an option to pick up potential future Mike Tyson events.

“Twitter, YouTube, and the internet lit up like a Christmas tree: all of sudden our event was the top eight, most-trending and popular topics online. Everyone started to buy. It was everything we wanted it to be and set digital records. We literally saw the word of mouth create records,” said Bobby Sarnevesht, executive chair of Triller, and co-owner of production and marketing company Proxima.
