Roc-A-Fella is currently taking down Damon Dash after they found out Dash is seeking to auction off one of Jay-Z’s debut albums as an NFT. This lawsuit is one of the first since Roc-A-Fella is suing one of its OWN founders.
Roc-A-Fella vs DD
Roc-A-Fella is targetting Damon for professedly attempting to coin “Reasonable Doubt” as a non-fungible symbol (known as an NFT) and sell it off to the highest bidder. This is a piece of hip-hop history RAF says is not Dame’s to sell, due to the fact that the company owns it.
According to documents (filed by powerhouse attorney Alex Spir), Damon made plans to sell off the album as an NFT at an auction (now canceled), however, the company made complaints about him trying to find another platform to hole the auction.
Money and sales
In the lawsuit, Roc-A-Fella insists Damon is “frantically scouting for another venue to make the sale” and also believed DD is seeking to quickly sell on the recent NFT craze.
Roc-A-Fella is now demanding a court to step in and prevent Damon from continuing the auction and want Dash to hand in any other NFTs of “Reasonable Doubt” he might already devise. So far Damon has not said anything about the issue.
