R. Kelly might be facing a huge problem in the upcoming weeks of his federal trial. According to TMZ, R. Kelly is facing a crisis between his 2 lead attorneys officially wanting off the case, which means the perverted R&B legend might have to consider some serious legal shuffling.
R. Kelly and attorneys
Attorneys Michael Leonard and Stijeven Greenberg– who’s been working for R. Kelly for many years recently filed reports on Monday demanding to step back from the federal case. One of the main reasons why they both wanted to pull out of the legal project was the fact that many of the other members of R. Kelly’s legal team didn’t work well together.
During a run-in with TMZ, Leonard and Greenberg stated, “We refused to try a case with lawyers who don’t have the appropriate level of experience and skill because that is not in the client’s best interest. It is a shame that lawyers can’t suppress their own egos or self-interest and do or act in the client’s best interest.”
Even though those 2 lawyers did leave his legal team, R. Kelly still possesses others that carry beef with one another. According to Thomas A. Farinella and Nicole Blank Becker, they have a different view of how this went down and states, “The only comment we have at this time is that Mr. Kelly terminated both lawyers prior to filing their motion.”
Even with the recent absents of Greenberg and Leonard, the judge now has to sign off before they could be fired, which has yet to happen. In the midst of the departure of the attorneys, this is still a huge power struggle for the legal team and R. Kelly. R. Kelly’s federal trial includes charges of racketeering, sexual exploitation of a child, kidnapping, forced labor, and bribery, which is set to begin on August 9.
