The week’s hottest new music from Jeezy, DaBaby, Megan Thee Stallion and more.
This week some of Hip-hop’s craftiest rappers, past and present, came to bat. While not the biggest music day compared to recent weeks, there’s certainly enough to get you to next Friday, and of course, a new Jeezy tape.
Hot off his tense truce with Gucci Mane in last night’s epic Versuz battle, Jeezy delivers his long awaited album, The Reseccion 2. Megan Thee Stallion and DaBaby also drop new projects, the former following a major label release campaign, and the latter a relative surprise. Rich The Kid and NBA YoungBoy show up as well with their first joint project, giving YoungBoy his seemingly millionth album in the last year. And finally Meek Mill returns with QUARANTINE PACK, a four song EP.
Check out the week’s biggest hits below, and be sure to check back next week to stay up to date on the hottest music from the Dirty South.
Jeezy – “Almighty Black Dollar” (feat. Rick Ross)
Well that’s certainly one way to drop an album.
Following an intense night at Magic City to cap off a 15-year long feud, Jeezy finally drops The Reseccion 2, a sequel to his much heralded 2008 album. The 15 song long tape features a diverse cast including Demi Lovato, E-40, Yo Gotti, Rick Ross and more. The album also follows the launch of Jeezy’s new podcast The (Re)Session Podcast, and the revelation that he was named Senior Advisor to the Chairman at Def Jam records. Maybe Jeezy can turn around Gucci’s jab from last night about not having any recent platinum records.
DaBaby – “Brother’s Keeper”
Tragedy will not stop DaBaby. Following the suicide of his brother, Glen Johnson, DaBaby strikes back with a new heartfelt, six-song EP My Brother’s Keeper. The project, which features guest spots from Meek Mill and Polo G, caps an incredibly successful year for DaBaby. He had already released two projects, April’s Blame It On Baby, a full-length deluxe edition in August, and put out a No. 1 hit “Rockstar.”
Megan Thee Stallion – “Body”
First song on Megan Thee Stallion’s new album: “Shots Fired.”
“You shot a 5’10” bitch with a .22
Talkin’ ’bout bones and tendons like them bullets weren’t pellets
A pussy n—a with a pussy gun in his feelings
Okay, he in the backseat and he keep callin’ me a bitch.”
Meg’s first project since Torey Lanez shot her starts with a classic diss track, and the bars do not stop from there. Megan runs through 17 non-stop tracks on Good News with all-star help from DaBaby, City Girls, Lil Durk, SZA, Popcaan, Big Sean, 2 Chainz, Young Thug, and of course Beyoncé. Best Torey diss? “I’m a steak, you a side plate, shrimp, stay in your place.”
Rich The Kid & YoungBoy NeverBrokeAgain – “Body Bag” (feat. Lil Wayne)
YoungBoy does not stop. He literally put out an album last week. Now he’s got Atlanta Soundcloud star Rich The Kid on a whole tape with him? And a feature from Lil Wayne, the king of endless tapes? As the title of the album would have you believe, Nobody Safe.
Meek Mill – “Pain Away” (feat. Lil Durk)
Meek Mill has released a new four song EP titled QUARANTINE PACK, his first release since 2018’s Championships, and February’s collaboration with Justin Timberlake “Believe.” The project features Lil Durk, 42 Dugg, and Vory.
Foogiano – “FIRST DAY IN LA” (feat. Pooh Shiesty)
To offer up some 1017 counter programming from the new Jeezy release (along with a new greatest hits album from the Trap God himself,) Foogiano and Pooh Shiesty return with a new single “FIRST DAY IN LA.” Ever since Gucci rebirthed his label byway of an Instagram contest, they have been on fire.
