Georgia’s hottest new artist on the scene
Hailing from Albany, Georgia, China Monai is one of the hottest up and coming artists. She took a few minutes to sit down with DirtySouthHipHop to tell us a little about herself.
Does your name have a significant meaning?
Yes, it’s significant because it’s a part of my real name, Chinara. I just took the “ra” off and Monai is my actual middle name.
How long have you been active in the music game?
I have been active in music for a year now, but I started out writing first in high school.
How are you going to approach the game as an artist?
I’m going to come into the game with my diverse vibes. I know how to ride the wave. I want to start up my own ‘hurricane’.
Who are some of the artists and producers you’ve worked with for your new music?
I’ve worked with a few up and coming artists and I’m working to get to the prestigious ones. The Producers I’ve worked with are Josh Did That, Q the producer, Draco, and Eli Blast.
Who would you say are your greatest influences in music today?
The artist I really look up to is Monica. She is everything to me. Her vibes are just like mine. But I also love Future, Drake, J-Lo, Linkin Park, Avril Lavigne, Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, Gucci, and Beyonce.
So with the climate of today’s artists using ghostwriters, would you use any and have you done any, for any artists out there now? I would definitely use a ghost writer. I don’t see anything wrong with it. I love working with people. I feel that a team can “make the dream work”. For instance, we can write a song together but that one person can have a line that can make the song a hit.
Although Atlanta gets most of the attention when it comes to the music scene in Georiga, Ms. Monai says she is aiming to bring the great energy and vibes that Albany has to offer. She is looking forward to not only succeeding in the music business, but she is also looking forward to bringing out her different personalities that will be represented through her music. Ms.Monai seems to have all the right things figured out, as she gets ready for a successful musical journey. We’re wishing her nothing but success and positive energy moving forward.
