Naomi Osaka, who is a very well-known tennis player and Cordae’s girlfriend has been feeling uncomfortable lately after she was struck with a fine for refusing to talk to the press. And now speaking on the incident. Naomi Osaka has finally broken her silence after receiving a $15,000 fine for declining to show up at the 2021 French Open press events.
Naomi Osaka’s prioritizes her health
Naomi Osaka was in an unstable mental health concern which was the reason for her decision. After hearing about this tournament organizers at Roland Garros disapproved this and threw a $15k fine and warn higher fees, plus a possible suspension could be issued.
With this happening, tennis star Naomi, who also dates rap star Cordae, is not letting them take advantage of her by taking to Twitter after her winning match against Romanian star Patricia Maria Tig on Sunday (May 30) to speak on the “lack of understanding” from organizers.
What she wrote to the organizer
Naomi wrote: “Anger is a lack of understanding. change makes people uncomfortable.” Stating her decision not to mesh with the press, Naomi stated in a statement last week: “I’ve often felt that people have no regard for athletes mental health and this rings very true whenever I see a press conference or partake in one.” Naomi continued with, “We’re often sat there and asked questions that we’ve been asked multiple times before or asked questions that bring doubt into our minds and I’m just not going to subject myself to people that doubt me.”
In an additional email to the organizers, she declared her actions are “100 per cent nothing against the French Open or even the press members themselves.” Naomi also added, “This stance is against the system requiring athletes to be forced to do press on occasions when they are suffering from mental health. I believe it is archaic and in need of reform. After this tournament I want to work with the Tours and the governing bodies to figure out how we best compromise to change the system.”
Even though Naomi did thoroughly explain her position and thoughts of the situation, it wasn’t enough to stop officials from taking action at the star in a since-deleted tweet, sharing a post on Saturday with four photos of other players meeting with reporters at the tournament. In the caption, they wrote: “They understood the assignment.”
