Beyonce’, Drake, and Meg Thee Stallion Among Nominees for NAACP Image Awards.
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), has announced its nominees for their 2021 Image Awards. The nominees were announced on Tuesday (February 2) Afternoon.
The NAACP Image Awards was first hosted in August 1967. The purpose of the award show is to honor people of color who show excellence in all forms of art including music, television, film, and literature.
In today’s culture, Hip-Hop’s influence dominates the airwaves and other spaces of society and the NAACP acknowledged many of the marquee talents in the game.
In the category of Best Male Artist, Big Sean, Drake, and Black Thought represented Hip-Hop with their nominations.
The Best Hip-Hop/ Rap Song nominees include bids from Megan Thee Stallion and Beyonce’, Big Sean, Missy Elliot, as well as Drake and Future.
Nominees for Best New Artist have some notable upcoming talent including Chika, Doja Cat, D Smoke, Giveon and Skip Marley.
The award for Entertainer of the Year also has some Hip-Hop representation as super DJ D-Nice was announced as a nominee thanks to feats like his highly popular DJ mixes on Instagram Live.
Other nominees for Entertainer of the Year include Viola Davis, Trevor Noah, Tyler Perry, and Regina King.
In a fashion similar to her run in the Grammy Nominations, Beyonce’ was the frontrunner at the NAACP Image Awards in the Recording space with 6 nominations.
Beyonce’ has done great work with the NAACP over the past year outside of her music with her BeyGood Foundation. Along with the NAACP, BeyGood donated $10,000 grants to several Black-Owned businesses affected by the pandemic.
