Michael B Jordan was quick to own up to his mistakes unlike other celebs when it comes to cultural appropriation…Complaints have been thrown left and right when it came to a leaked photo of him at a launch party.
You’re probably wondering what the problem was, but he seemed to have a connection to the brand new rum line called “J’ouvert.”
“J’ouvert” is the name of an important traditional Caribbean festival, because of this many had found this beyond disrespectful being it is a part of their culture especially those with Trinidadian ancestry.
Some even argued the fact that Michael may have collaborated with those that are Trinidadian. But then again he isn’t Trinidadian himself so that still isn’t a valid excuse for his actions.
Michael Jordans Apology
He apologized and he even agreed to change the name, he also says he has been listening to his consumers and understands the disappointment.
“I just wanna say on behalf of myself & my partners, our intention was never to offend or hurt a culture (we love & respect) & hoped to celebrate & shine a positive light on.”
“Last few days has been a lot of listening, A lot of learning & engaging in countless conversations.”
