Durk’s Christmas Eve release features tribute to King Von.
Lil Durk has released his new album, The Voice, ahead of schedule. While it seemed as if fans would have to wait until 2021 for the highly anticipated album, Durk posted the album cover yesterday (Dec. 23) and announced its imminent release. Unlike some artists, he actually delivered.
“The voice dropping midnight tell the trenches I’m back,” he captioned an Instagram post, followed by #doit4von.
The 16 song album continues Durk’s successful 2020 streak and contains features from Young Thug Metro Boomin & 6lack (“Stay Down”), the late King Von (“Still Trappin’”), and YNW Melly (“Free Jamell”) who is currently awaiting trial for double-murder charges. Earlier this year Durk reached number one of the Billboard Hot 100 with Drake with “Laugh Now Cry Later.”

The Voice comes on the heels of the tragic murder of rapper King Von last month. Von was signed to Durk’s Only The Family Imprint. His debut album was released a week after his death, and featured Lil Durk on two songs.
Since then, Lil Durk has made his grief for his friend’s death publicly open. “MY TWIN GONE I LOVE YOU BABY BRO!!!!!” he posted.
Earlier this week Durk dropped a single parlty inspired by Von’s death, “Backdoor,” and flaunts Von’s signature “Welcome To O’Block” chain.
“Before you leave that door, you gotta pick that Glock up/Can’t nut in no more whores, I got that from my momma,” he croons. “Closing down the stores, we do that with these commas/Had me at my lowest, I’m riding ’round with choppers.”
Von and Durk are both Chicago natives who grew up in the O’Block, one of Chicago’s most dangerous neighborhoods, and once home to Michelle Obama and Chief Keef. Many had King Von pegged as one of the most exciting upcoming rappers, and he charted three singles on the Billboard charts following his death.
