Kanye West and Yeezy are sueing Walmart after releasing their very own pair of shoes that look too similar to Kanye West’s foam shoe design. The large store chain allegedly has been selling the knockoff pairs very low compared to the real ones.
Yeezy by Kanye
According to new legal docs that were obtained by TMZ, Kanye and his apparel company, Yeezy, made accusations that Walmart took the exact model of his well-known Yeezy Foam Runner and stirred confusion within customers who were wondering if they bought the real thingy or a fake.
Additionally, Kanye and Yeezy claim the retail giant is costing him millions of dollars for selling fakes. He originally began designs of the Foam Runner in 2019 and the footwear finally made it on shelves in June 2020. They sold out instantly at $75 a pair.
Walmart created an”unauthorized exact copy” and has been selling it as low as $25 a pair, in their attempt to cash in on the popularity of Kanye and the Foam Runner.
So far, Kanye and Yeezy sent a legal warning to Walmart and told them to discontinue selling the shoes from its site, but they haven’t taken action yet.
A company spokesperson told TMZ, “The product referenced in the complaint is not sold by Walmart, but rather by third-party Marketplace sellers. We take allegations like this seriously and are reviewing the claim. We will respond in court as appropriate after we have been served with the complaint.”
