HBCU Colleges For Black Youth to Attend

HBCU College

There are many choices to pick for going to college, especially HBCUs.

The HBCUs I will be focusing on today will be Famu, Savannah, Albany State, and Fort Valley.


Famu stands for Florida Agricultural And Mechanical University, it is located in the south in Tallahassee Florida.

Famu is a historically black university that was founded in 1887 by 15 students and 2 teachers. Their colors include green and orange. Also, there are 13 different majors at Famu to pick from. Some of these categories are social sciences, arts, humanities, agriculture, food sciences, technology, and way much more.

The in-state tuition is $5,785, out of state tuition is $17,725. The GPA requirements are a grade point average of 3.00, 18 academic units, redesigned SAT 1060, and ACT of 21. Students will also need to meet postsecondary college-level preparatory test requirements.

Savannah State University is located in Georgia and is the oldest historically black college in the state.

The college was founded in 1891 by Richard R. Wright Sr. He was the first president for the college. The college opened with only 5 faculty and 8 students. The school colors are white, burnt orange, and reflex blue.

Some of the many majors include journalism, biology, oceanography, and marine biology,  justice, youth services, social working and so much more you can check out!

For Georgia residents, the tuition is only $5,743, and $16,204 for out of state. The minimum GPA for this college is 3.0.

Albany State

Albany State was founded by Joseph Winthrop Holley in 1903. The colors for the college is Royal Blue and Old Gold.

Some majors include psychology, human biology, homeland security, political science and governments, sociology, and more.

The tuition is $5,934 in state and $16,655 out of state. The minimum GPA for Albany is 2.0.

Fort Valley

Fort Valley was founded in 1895 by William Merida Hubbard. The colors of the college are blue, royal blue, gold, and old gold.

Some majors include biology, liberal arts, psychology, and more.

Tuition is $4,950 instate and $16,494 out of state. The minimum GPA is 3.25-4.0.
