Jackson and Lil Baby Honor George Floyd Through His Daughter
Yesterday (December 16th) Gianna Floyd daughter of the late George Floyd celebrated her seventh birthday. This birthday was the first following George Floyd’s death and Gianna was given a special birthday celebration with a little help.
NBA Champion Stephen Jackson and Atlanta artist Lil Baby both played a big role in making the event for Floyd’s daughter memorable.
Jackson made an Instagram post saluting Lil Baby for helping to make Gianna’s birthday a success. Efforts to honor Floyd’s death like the “Be His Legacy” program have been established to improve the future of children like Gianna who was affected by police brutality.
Jackson has connections to Restaurant Ten and Rosie’s Cafe located in Atlanta and teamed up with the owners Ericka and William Platt to create the ideal party for Gianna. The two parties began brainstorming for this move back in July when Gianna visited the Platt family who was friends of the Floyd family.
Roxie Washington, Gianna’s mother was grateful for the support she received in putting together a party for her daughter:
“This is a very difficult time for my daughter, so we’re very grateful that our extended family is creating such a special experience for Gianna on her first birthday without her father”.
The party for Gianna was a small gathering featuring a LOL dolls theme at the Atlanta Pink hotel. Lil Baby who funded the event performed his hit single “The Bigger Picture”.
“The Bigger Picture” was the most-streamed protest song following the death of George Floyd and since that time, Lil Baby has given great support to Floyd’s family.
Ericka Platt took time to express gratitude for Lil Baby sponsoring the event and performing as well:
“The song is really about supporting children who lost their parents to violence, Lil Baby decided to sponsor Gianna’s birthday party and has been very supportive. We are very grateful for that.”
Stephen Jackson has developed a close relationship with Gianna by taking on a fatherly role for her in the passing of her father. Jackson and Floyd were close friends before his passing and Jackson spoke on his relationship with Gianna:
“I think I adopted another child, God put me into this position, I’m going to do the best that I can.”
