Dave Chappelle At It Again
Nothing different from stand-up comedian Dave Chappelle, just stirring up a lot of conversation especially with his recently premiered show The Closer.
Only being released not too long ago, people are already wanting it off Netflix.
The LBGT community feels beyond disrespected, and say he is allegedly promoting homophobia and transphobia in his segments.
National Black Justice Coalition, LBGT organization says with the rate transgender people are being discriminated with this year, especially those who are black Netflix should take the segment down.
“With 2021 on track to be the deadliest year on record for transgender people in the United States — the majority of whom are Black transgender people — Netflix should know better. Perpetuating transphobia perpetuates violence,” David Johns, the executive director of National Black Justice Coalition says.
Critics Issue With Closer
Though there are many people still supporting Chappelle through the controversy, majority want the segment down.
Many critics found a big issue where the controversial comedian embraced the TERF movement.
The TERF movement stands for: Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminist. The movement is considered transphobic because of it’s opposition to the trans rights movement.
Dave Chappelle’s response isn’t really surprising being he is used to stirring conversations, but he says “If this is what being canceled is about, I love it, ” on his documentary screening on Thursday.
