It has been a rough weekend.
Baton Rouge rapper Torrence Hatch Jr, known professionally as Boosie Badazz, was shot in the leg last weekend while paying respects to his fallen friend Mo3. The Dallas rapper was recently murdered earlier this month while driving on a freeway. Mo3’s murderer is still at large, and there has been speculation it was a set up. Police continue their search.
Early reports indicated that the “Set It Off” rapper may have needed a leg amputation, in part due to his diabetes. TMZ has since reported that Boosie is out of the hospital and okay, but did have to undergo two surgeries. Doctors say that he will be on the shelf up to 6 weeks. Prayers go out to him and his family for a speedy recovery.
Boosie was publicly friends with Mo3, signing the late rapper to his label and recording several songs with him. The most notable songs the two artists made together were “One Of Them Days Again” and “Apartment.”
Listen to “One Of Them Days Again” below.
Sadly, more shootings have happened.
Chicago rapper King Von was murdered earlier this month in Atlanta after being in an altercation with Quando Rondo’s crew. Von had released his debut album days prior. His murderer is currently in custody.
New York rapper Benny The Butcher was also shot in the leg only hours after Boosie’s shooting, but in Houston. The rapper is currently in good spirits, is back on his feet, and recovering well.
It is unfortunate to see rappers, beloved by so many people around the world, shot at and gunned down for clout and jewelry. With hip-hop’s role as a positive and uplifting movement in culture hopefully the gun violence soon stops, and rappers can can move in peace.
