Obama Understands Cancel Culture
Former President Barack Obama’s young daughters, more than anyone, understand cancel culture, particularly in this day and age. It is time to discuss how toxic it is and the more serious consequences.
In an interview, Obama discusses how dangerous/toxic it is to cancel everyone because of mistakes when no human being is perfect in any way, resulting in high unmet standards.
Toxicity in Cancel Culture
“At least in conversations with my daughter, I think that a lot of the dangers of cancel culture and we’re just going to be condemning people all the time, at least among my daughters they will acknowledge sometimes among their peer group or in college campuses you’ll see folks going overboard.”
“But they have a pretty good sense of look, we don’t want, we don’t expect everybody to be perfect,” he says for his two daughters Sasha and Malia.
He also talks about how nowadays his daughters and this generation as a whole are currently fighting the imperfections in society such as racial injustices and homophobia.
Another topic he touched was today’s democracy and how we need to take on the fact it may not always be here.
“My hope is that the tides will turn,” Obama says about our falling political situation.
“But that does require each of us to understand that this experiment in democracy is not self-executing. It doesn’t happen just automatically.”
