Following her first album Baduizm, and the birth of her son with Andre 3000, fans and critics were excited to see how Badu would follow up. She did not disappoint and blew away critics and fans alike with a unique and dynamic sound on Mama’s Gun.
When Mama’s Gun first came out in 2000, the album was met with a very positive reception. PopMatters called it “a definite work of art, destined to remain in heavy rotation for some time to come.” Badu received numerous Grammy nominations, and was ranked as the fifth best album of the year by The New York Times.
Badu’s Presence is Unlike Any Other
Ms. Badu has taken on many different styles of music over the course of her career that put her in a class all her own. Her ability to seamlessly blend hip-hop stylings, along with soulful vocals bring together sounds that are not always paired together. Her impact on music is still felt today. Her performance at the BET Hip-Hop Awards’ All-Women Cypher showed that her energy is timeless.
As a Dallas native, Badu is one of countless trailblazing southern artists over the past several decades. It is common for many modern day artists to site Erykah as someone they admire for her originality and transparency.
“I can I die!!!” Cardi remarked after Badu praised her debut album in 2018. “The support I️m getting from Artist its amazing i can’t even believe it specially by @erykahbadu (sic)!!!!”
Salute to Ms.FattyBella for remaining a prime example of musical excellence over the entirety of her career.
