50 Cent Files Motion
50 Cent is in a little legal battle over his famous cognac brand.
The rapper recently filed a motion, E. Rèmy Martin & Co. is reportedly suing 50-Cent for trademark infringement.
The motion was filed on the account in response to E. Rèmy Martin & Co. filing a lawsuit, on account of his business Sire Spirits for allegedly duplicating the design of Rémy XO for Cognac X.O.
Sire Spirits attorney explains to Billboard how they believe the suit is to knock out a competitor.
“This action is a naked effort to use meritless litigation to financially destroy a competitor.”
“Rémy Martin must be stopped, and the claims against Sire Spirits should not be allowed to survive.”
They also noted that the bottle design is really common so it is not likely they copied directly Rèmy XO.
“No brand or company has the right to exclude others from making or selling curved bottle for Cognac or other alcohol,” Reena Jain says.
“Nonetheless, Rémy Martin is on a mission to eliminate Sire Spirits from the Cognac market.”
Here are the two bottles.
This wouldn’t be a 50 Cent motion without some of his classic trolling, talking about he is “just getting started.”
“They afraid of me already. Branson Cognac is the new wave. Rémy Martin is #2 Behind Henny and worried about Branson. Smh I’m just getting started.”
