Def Jam Looks to Re-Up with 2 Chainz
Atlanta native 2 Chainz just dropped his latest album So Help Me God on all DSPs and is using this momentum to make new opportunities for himself. So Help Me God is the sixth studio album from 2 Chainz and is the final album owed to Def Jam based on his contract.
To celebrate his album release, 2 Chainz performed in the Parking Lot Concert series and performed cuts from the project. With a loyal fanbase and a resume of consistent quality music, 2 Chainz is now in a position where he can be an independent artist and take more ownership over the direction of his music-making.
2 Chainz spoke about his contract situation with Ebro Darden on how his relationship has been with Def Jam:
“With this one, I thought it was gonna be an amicable split. And me knowing I still have more in the tank… was just gonna leave and see what God had to offer. And they came back with a few things that were enticing, and we’re working on it.”
2 Chainz is Still Evolving in His Artistry
2020 has been a demanding year for entertainers and artists but 2 Chainz has still maintained a solid streak of progress despite the challenges. With everything from features with artists like DaBaby and Future to being in a conference call with Dr.Fauci; 2 Chainz is proving he is much more than a typical rapper.
With the string of boss moves he has conducted this year, 2 Chainz has created a unique space of demand and leverage for his next move. His story is an example of someone paying their dues to the culture to level up and control their fate as a creative.
Although nothing is set in stone as it relates to 2 Chainz staying at Def Jam or going independent, his fans will continue to ride for the Playaz Circle OG. Check out more info on this developing story at allhiphop.com
