The year 2021 passed without 2 Chainz releasing a new project, but don’t worry, it was merely a hiccup. 2 Chainz isn’t wasting any more time in registering for the year 2022, with plans to release his new album, Dope Don’t Sell Itself, in January.
2 Chainz prepares latest project
2 Chainz called the project “new and exotic,” and said the first single would be released soon this week.
“Hey you how you been!? Its been a minute I know, but im back with something new and exotic,” 2 Chainz wrote on Instagram on Tuesday (January 4). “You know I ain’t been around this long with out being a thinker and a constant student & teacher of the game.
“My album ‘DOPE DONT SELL ITSELF’ drops this month and single drops this week. Sincerely Yours, Two Tone Toni.”
Dope Don’t Sell Itself, which he initially stated in August during a performance at San Bernardino’s HARD Summer Music Festival, will bring the Drench God’s illustrious trap era to a finale.
Last summer, he declared on Twitter, “This gone be my last trap album, enjoy.”
A new era
The new album will be the follow-up to So Help Me God!, which featured Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Lil Uzi Vert, Chief Keef, NBA YoungBoy, Ty Dolla $ign, Brent Faiyaz, and others.
The project’s star-studded roster, however, struggled to get it over No. 15 on the Billboard 200, marking 2 Chainz’s first big label record to fall just outside of the top 10.
Regardless of the fact that he won’t be releasing a new album in 2021, 2 Chainz kept himself occupied last year with several guest spots. With lines from Griselda’s Benny The Butcher (“Plug Talk”), Westside Gunn (“Forest Lawn”), and Conway The Machine (“200 Pies,” “TRU Bethel”), the 44-year-old rapper made the Billboard Hot 100 with BLEU’s “Baddest.”
He also marked the tenth anniversary of his smash 2011 mixtape T.R.U. REALigion by reissuing it on streaming sites with two new songs, as well as embarking on a small anniversary tour with DJ Drama in November.
